Welcome to Troop 339
Our troop was founded at the beginning of 2020 to serve a group of youth in other troops that were losing their charter. Our sponsoring organization is the Leedy Grange, found near the corner of Cornell and Saltzman Rds in Cedar Mill, OR, and we have troop members from a wide area on the west side of Portland including the Rock Creek, Bethany, Springville, and Cedar Mill neighborhoods.
Meeting Schedule
Our typical Troop meetings are on Thursday nights from 7-8:30pm. We do
not meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month and instead try to plan
outings for that weekend.
Meetings may be held at the Leedy Grange, the Scoutmaster's home, or at
various local parks. Plans are communicated regularly via Scoutbook
email and the troop mailing list.
A calendar of all our planned meetings and outings can be found in the Troop Annual Plan
The troop meetings and outings are also updated to the Scoutbook
calendar, which can be viewed in most calendar apps (including Google
calendar) using this link:
Calendar
The troop maintains a signup sheet for upcoming events that is critical to planning outings.
Parental Involvement
Like all Scouting America Troops, we are run entirely by parents and
volunteers. We strongly encourage parents to register to assist as an
Assistant Scoutmaster or to volunteer on the troop committee. Parent
Committee Meetings are held monthly, and all parents are encouraged to
attend regularly. The meetings are typically held on the second Sunday
afternoon of the month from 3:30-4:30 PM, either in person or on Zoom.
There are several roles where we need help, and we are happy to work
with whatever time and resources you are willing and able to share.
Finances/Dues
Annual Troop Dues for the troop are $300 and include BSA registration fees, awards, and the cost of troop campouts during the year. Scouts who transfer from a pack or another troop will not need to pay the Scouting America registration fee portion. Dues are prorated for scouts who join midway through the year. There will be additional fees for scouts who attend summer camp or other district events. We do not want finances to prevent anyone from participating, so please let us know if you are interested in scholarships or campership assistance. Our troop participates in various fundraisers throughout the year. Participation is always optional and proceeds go directly to participating scouts to help cover annual dues, summer camp, and other event fees. Payment for any fees can be made via PayPal - send it to pay@bsatroop339.com, please make sure you indicate it as a “Friends and Family” payment and include the scout's or scouter's name in the notes field. To arrange payment by cash or check, send an email to pay@bsatroop339.com to work out a time and place to make the payment.
